Underground Grow House Brought To Light

An underground grow house in Lehigh Acres has been dismantled by Lee County deputies.

On Thursday, November 20, 2014 Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies, acting on a tip, responded to 503 Scott Avenue in Lehigh Acres to investigate a possible grow house location.

After numerous indicators of a grow house were observed, a search warrant was obtained to enter the residence. Once inside, deputies uncovered an elaborate underground marijuana cultivation operation.

Due to the construction design of this particular home, it was possible for the residents to dig underneath the foundation of the home and construct an area designed to grow large amounts of marijuana beneath the house. Access to the operation was gained through ports that had been cut in the floor of the house and covered with carpet so as not to be noticed from inside the house.

In all, 31 live plants were seized weighing a total of 118.2 lbs; an approximate street value of $93,000. At this time no arrests have been made and the investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone who has any information on this grow house is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 239-477-1000, or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000, call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
